2020 Donizetti Opera Festival
Update
Back home: the 2020 edition of the Donizetti Opera coincides with the reopening of the Donizetti Theatre.
But although the Festival is confirmed, the pandemic demands strict security measures, forcing us to rethink the productions and also to reflect on the wound that the Covid has inflicted on the community. The premieres will therefore take place without physical spectators but, we hope, with many spectators on our new Donizetti Web TV and watching Rai5 for the live streaming of Marino Faliero.
The entire Festival thus “moves” on the web, not only the shows, but also the series “Parla con Gaetano“, presentations, meetings and so on: a palimpsest, a dramaturgy designed for the web and to make the shows accessible to all, experts, enthusiasts and neophytes.
We begin with Marino Faliero, in a new production entrusted to the strong and contemporary creativity of ricci/forte and with an all-star cast also including Michele Pertusi and Francesca Dotto. Then we will have Belisario in concert form with Roberto Frontali in the title role. On the podium of the first two operas, the musical director of the Festival, Riccardo Frizza. For the #donizetti200 cycle, the modern premiere of Le nozze in villa will be staged, with an edition prepared by the scientific department led by Paolo Fabbri: on the podium, Stefano Montanari, directed by Davide Marranchelli. The missing quintet has been re-composed by contemporary musicians: Elio, Rocco Tanica and Enrico
Melozzi.
The festival’s graphic design, centred on Donizetti’s “superheroes“, was conceived before the pandemic but now seems even more appropriate: the characters of our real superhero, Gaetano Donizetti, will bring thought, beauty, emotion and, in short, life back to their real home: the theatre.
