The National Critical Edition with Casa Ricordi continues with a new title
Coinciding with the opening of the Donizetti Opera 2019 festival, the first two titles of the 2020 program are announced, those that will be staged at the Donizetti Theatre: Marino Faliero and La fille du régiment will thus mark the definitive return of the opera to the stage of the City Theatre which will reopen in September 2020.

In the Sala Werner Otto of Konzerthaus in Berlin, in the heart of the German capital, on Saturday, September 21, a name resonated more than the others, that of Gaetano Donizetti, continuously quoted during the entire ceremony, which has indicated the Donizetti Opera of Bergamo as “Best Festival 2019”.
The motivation behind the award,
In 2019 the festival grows and presents an operatic title more than in previous years: Pietro il Grande for the #donizetti200 project, the first staging of the Ange de Nisida signed by Francesco Micheli, the new critical edition of Lucrezia Borgia.

The Donizetti Theatre Foundation (Fondazione Teatro Donizetti) calls all members, fans and people from Bergamo to vote online for two projects dedicated to the city’s composer, finalists in the international award from FEDORA, the European philanthropic organization supporting opera, ballet and the latest generations of artists.
Donizetti Night reaches its fifth edition on 15th June 2019.
In previous editions, small scale format shows were created specifically for outdoor spaces. This new call for projects is open to all those who looking for a challenge in musical theatre, experimentation, street performance and communication. The only limiting factor is that all the projects have to have an explicit reference to the figure or the music of Gaetano Donizetti.
2018’s Donizetti Opera Festival, together with all the activities related to Bergamo-born composer organized by the Fondazione Teatro Donizetti, under the artistic direction of Francesco Micheli and the musical direction of Riccardo Frizza, came to an end with a significant increase in audience figures, particularly from foreign visitors, and in critical acclaim, reconfirming the successful development of local community projects and engagement.
In 2018, festival attendance was up 30.1% (from 6,524 people in 2017 to 8,491).
On occasion of the 70th birthday of Paolo Fabbri, the Scientific Director of the Fondazione Teatro Donizetti, a book dedicated to him, ‘Musica di ieri, esperienza d’oggi’ (Yesteryear’s music, today’s experience), will be presented in the company of friends and colleagues.
