“Le melodie di Donizetti”, Caffè Balzer’s chocolates dedicated to the composer

In 2016, on occasion of its eightieth anniversary, the historic Caffè Balzer, bar and pastry shop, as well as meeting point for audiences attending the theatre “Teatro Donizetti”, created an elegant series of handmade chocolates dedicated to the composer and named “Le Melodie di Donizetti“, or “The Melodies of Donizetti”.

The official presentation and the beginning of sale to the public took place at the beginning of the Donizetti Festival in November 2016. There are nine ‘Melodies’, different in intensity and aroma, and designed to satisfy the most demanding palates: white chocolate with exotic fruits; milk chocolate; milk and Gianduia (hazelnut) chocolate; milk chocolate, cardamom and raspberry; 61% dark chocolate; 75% dark chocolate; dark chocolate and Piran salt; 70% dark chocolate with red chilli pepper and Muscovado sugar; pistachio cream chocolate. Each chocolate, crafted and wrapped by hand, can be purchased individually or in packs of nine pieces, and has the shape of a coin bearing the effigy of the composer in relief, taken, with permission, from a famous portrait by the contemporary artist from Bergamo Mario Donizetti. The chocolates offer tourists and Donizetti enthusiasts an elegant and tasty souvenir in the name of Donizetti.

The creation of this new confectionery delight was conceived by Caffè Balzer in collaboration with the artist Mario Donizetti, and with a contribution from the project entitled “Bergamo, Terra di Donizetti” (Bergamo, Land of Donizetti), promoted by a group of companies using funding from the Lombardy Region for “The development of integrated products and services for the promotion of touristic, cultural and natural attractions in Lombardy” (ROP ERDF 2014-2020/innovation and competitiveness).
